Innis Maggiore Scholarships Awarded to Two Kent State University at Stark Seniors

Innis Maggiore President and CEO Dick Maggiore today announced that Kent State University at Stark seniors Brian Sayre and Mackenzie Vega were awarded the Innis Maggiore Endowed Scholarship for Communications.

A Massillon resident, Sayre is married and a new father. While majoring in applied communication with a minor in writing, he has earned a spot on the dean's list every semester. He is a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda, tutored speech and managed social media for the Kent State Communication Department. He also completed two internships in the Kent Stark Communication Department.

"Receiving this scholarship came at a crucial time and it will help a great deal," Sayre said. "I am so grateful there are people and organizations like Innis Maggiore who give back to the community." Sayre plans to use his writing and communication skills in advertising, public relations, human resources or in the nonprofit sector.

Vega, a Perry High School graduate, majors in marketing and is a member of the university's honors program. A marketing intern at the American Road Machinery Company, she also serves on the creative team and is the music intern at New Life Tabernacle in Massillon.

”I am deeply honored to be a recipient of the Innis Maggiore Endowed Scholarship and look forward to entering the world of marketing," Vega said. She plans to earn an MBA from Kent State University, work at a marketing firm and eventually teach at the collegiate level.

"Innis Maggiore is delighted to award this annual scholarship to Brian and Mackenzie," Maggiore said. "Supporting all students, both traditional and nontraditional, is important to our agency and underscores our belief that education is the best way to grow a strong, vibrant community."

Innis Maggiore originally endowed the scholarship in 2007. This year, $1,750 was distributed to each scholarship winner. Full-time Kent State Stark students who reside in Stark County, major in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or advertising, and demonstrate need are eligible for the annual scholarship.
