Canton Advertising Club Names Dick Maggiore 1999 Ad Person of the Year

CANTON, Ohio (May 21, 1999) - The leader of one of Ohio's fastest-growing advertising and public relations firms was named 1999 Ad Person of the Year today by the Canton Advertising Club.

Dick Maggiore, president of Innis Maggiore Group, received the club's top individual honor this afternoon at Prestwick Country Club.

"Dick dramatically represents the values the Canton Ad Club aims to recognize with this annual award," said Kathleen Gray Farthing, a member of the club's board of directors and chairman of the 1999 Ad Person of the Year awards ceremony.

"The growth of Innis Maggiore Group and Dick's commitment to the industry and community make him an excellent choice for this year's honor."

Innis Maggiore Group, established in 1974, has grown its billings by more than 40 percent in each of the last two years. In June, the company will move into newer, larger quarters in Belden Village. The firm is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

A number of long-time clients and associates helped recognize Maggiore today during the luncheon. Among the well-wishers were:

  • Marian Carpenter, director of corporate communications at Republic Technologies International (formerly Republic Engineered Steels), a long-time client of Innis Maggiore;
  • Rod Rubbo, executive director of the Cultural Center for the Arts, another long-time client.
  • Paula Mastroianni, director of marketing at The Repository, a client and business associate;
  • John Maggiore, Dick's brother, business partner and executive vice president at Innis Maggiore;
  • Chuck and Dee Innis, the firm's founders;
  • Kathi Maggiore, Dick's wife, business partner and corporate secretary and treasurer at the firm;
  • Jeff Monter, vice president for creative services at Innis Maggiore and a long-time professional associate.
  • The awards ceremony also featured a video and slide presentation that hailed Maggiore's accomplishments.

Maggiore has been president of Innis Maggiore Group since 1992. A noted speaker and author on marketing communications topics, he is a past president of the Canton Advertising Club and has served on boards and committees of several local organizations. His work and expertise have been cited in two advertising textbooks.

Maggiore received bachelor of arts and science degrees from San Francisco State University and has taught marketing and public relations courses at Kent State University. He is a resident of North Canton, where he lives with his wife, Kathi, and their sons, Jeff and Nathan.

The Ad Person of the Year Award, also called the Silver Medal Award, has been presented by the Canton Ad Club once a year since 1960. A special committee of the club selects as the winner a person who has made outstanding contributions to the profession, his or her company and the community.

Past winners of the award include Ray Hexamer of WHBC Radio, George Wern of Wern Rausch Locke Advertising, Dennis Arnold of The Timken Co., Judy Rosenberry of Banc One Corp. and David Lavin of Sugardale Foods.

The Canton Ad Club, established in 1947, is a society of advertising, design and communications professionals. It is affiliated with the American Advertising Federation, a national organization with more than 50,000 members.
